Humane Euthanasia Program Update

humane euthanasia programOur humane euthanasia program continues to move forward and expand throughout the state of Chihuahua. Compassion without Borders and the Juarez animal protection group APRODEA have been working for 3 years now to end electrocution, the most commonly employed method of killing unwanted animals in Mexico. Most recently, we helped eradicate the process in the capitol city of Chihuahua, implementing it after a model program we initiated in Juarez.

CWOB cofounder Moncho Camblor and APRODEA veterinarian Juan Jose Martinez headed down to Chihuahua to do an additional hands-on training and supervisory inspection at the animal control center we most recently sponsored to switch over to humane euthanasia. The visit, on May 4th, was afollow-up from our previous training in late February.

Moncho brought and donated all the equipment needed to implement our humane euthanasia program, including humane animal handling tools and the necessary medications and drugs.

humane euthanasia programThe visit went well and the animal control facility is now implementing 100% humane euthanasia by injection and no longer utilizing electrocution. An additional humane animal handling course will be sponsored by CWOB later in the summer for the animal control officers carrying out the euthanasias.
