Fall's Fabulous Meximutts Head North

As the Fall chill began to set in, CWOB loaded up our rescue van with great donations for the animals of Mexico. We brought 2 donated gas anesthesia machines, loads of food and treats, dog beds, collars, leashes, loads of dewormer, and other goodies for the homeless animals we service through our various clinics. After a 24 hour drive down and a quick day to unload and check on our programs, we loaded the van up yet again -- this time with rescued meximutts and began the long trek back north.

Charmin
We found Charmin wandering the streets of Agua Prieta at our last spay camp in July. He had more bald spots than haired ones on his skinny little body, was horribly itchy, extremely underweight and hung his head low with his tail tucked between his legs -the typical, heartbreaking stance that abused critters tend to take on. We quickly scooped him up, got him the medical attention he needed, and placed him in a local foster while he recovered.

I hadn't seen Charmin since July and could hardly recognize him when I saw him in Juarez a few weeks ago. His coat had grown in beautifully, his posture had changed completely and, while still shy, he did elicit attention and wag his sweet little tail when interacting with you. He was healthy, vibrant, and an absolutely beautiful, kind soul that appeared to still be healing emotionally, but doing it with grace and dignity.
We asked our partners at Small Dog Rescue to find him a special foster where he could continue to learn to trust and become secure here in California, and that is just what they did. Within weeks of his arrival he was thriving and is currently waiting for his perfect home here in the US of A.

Pepito

This four pound sweetheart was found with a painful condition affecting his genitals, struggling just to survive at a junkyard in Juarez, Mexico. He was very thin and in great discomfort when he was rescued. A few corrective surgeries later {he had a problem with his penile sheath}, & after many baths, lots of TLC, and yummy nutrition from foster parents, Pepito was a brand new dog ready to make his new life here in California.

Elsie

Although I love every dog on every rescue we ever do, I am notorious for having a favorite {or two, or three...}. And, in this case, that would be Elsie. Elsie is a dog so sweet and so gentle it makes you weak. I first met Elsie back in July when she was brought to our spay camp by a man who had 47 dogs living in his home. Elsie arrived in the back of a truck, was hog tiedand rope was tightly wound around her muzzle. She was emaciated, covered in mange, and had a painful venereal tumor.

We asked ,{okay demanded}, the man to relinquish Elsie to our care and within minutes she was ours! CWOB volunteers began caring for her immediately - bathing and reassuring her. She then stayed in foster in Mexico while she underwent treatment for her mange and her venereal tumor.

Elsie came out of her shell completely - a total physical and emotional transformation. Once healthy, she revealed herself to be a beautiful, delicate, glossy coated shephard cross that thinks of herself more as a lap dog than anything else. She wants little more than to give and receive love and is an absolutely radiant young soul. Our partners at Center for Animal Protection and Education in Santa Cruz have been caring for her since she returned to Northern California and report that everyone is madly in love with her! She will make some family very, very lucky.

Chito

Handsome, confident, playful, refined. What more could you ask for in an adorable 10 lb Meximutt Chihuahua-cross?

Dulcita

Sweet little Dulcita was given to us at our last spay camp as a small puppy. The woman who gave her to us was having the dog that gave birth to Dulcita spayed and mentioned she had an unwanted puppy at home and that the puppy was sick. We took little Dulcita, treated her for some fairly mild diarrhea, and held her in foster for a few months while she underwent vaccinations, deworming,, and sterilization.
Dulcita turned out to be an absolutely darling little Dachshund cross without a care in the world!

Mona

Sweet Mona was found in horrific conditions at the animal control center in Juarez where she was awaiting euthanasia. She was skin and bones, covered with mange, and very frightened when she was first rescued. A few months later, with some basic medical care and TLC, Mona was transformed into an adorable, fluffy little four pound heartbreaker.

Mami

Sweet little Mami was found by CWOB spay camp volunteers roaming alongside the side of the highway in rural Mexico. She was thin, uncared for, and still had milk in her teats from a recent litter. A few short months later, Mami has forgotten her days of rummaging for trash just to survive and is a complete convert to the good life. She enjoys belly rubs, lots of snuggling, and lives life with an happy go lucky personality that seems absolutely contrary to the struggles she’s known so far. Life is good these days for Mami and she embraces every minute of it!
