HUMANE EUTHANASIA TRAINING IN CHIHUAHUA

HUMANE EUTHANASIA TRAINING IN CHIHUAHUACompassion without Borders and Aprodea (an animal advocacy group in Mexico) traveled to Chihuahua on February 17th to hold a statewide humane euthanasia training. The training was held at a large animal control center in Chihuahua, where CWOB plans to initiate our next humane euthanasia program.
The training covered the importance of humane euthanasia, the logistics of its application, & humane animal handling techniques. CWOB’s cofounder Moncho Camblor led both the classroom and hands-on portions of the training. Mexican veterinarians from Juarez, where humane euthanasia is currently implemented, traveled with us to discuss their experiences and offer their advice and expertise to the animal control employees from around the state of Chihuahua. Four dogs were  rescued during the training session.

CWOB will formally initiate the humane euthanasia program in Chihuahua in April, after an additional training weekend, and a final contract negotiation. Our humane euthanasia programs encompass more than just the method of euthanasia at a particular facility. We also require humane animal handling methods, immediate euthanasia of sick or injured animals, &  basic quality control standards for animals housing and care.

HUMANE EUTHANASIA TRAINING IN CHIHUAHUAThe short term goal of our programs is to offer the initial training, impetus, and tools necessary for animal control centers in Mexico to end electrocution, implement humane euthanasia, and begin offering humane care to the animals they house.  Long term, however, we expect the local government to take over the program, once the model is in place and functioning smoothly.
