MEXI-MUTT OF THE MONTH

Meet Sally, CWOB’s rescue dog of the month. Sally’s is an inspiring story of triumph over tragedy and joy conquering despair.

Just a few short months ago, Sally sat emaciated, covered in mange and scabs in an animal control cage in Juarez, Mexico. She had been rounded up off the streets, where she had clearly been fending for herself for some time. Weighing in at six pounds, Sally’s small size and timid fragile disposition had made street life difficult. By the time she was picked up by animal control and tossed in her cage, she was truly struggling just to survive.

APRODEA, our local partners in Juarez, sent us photos of Sally and told us they had selected her for our rescue. We thanked them for saving her life and stayed in close contact with her local foster mom, who was providing the medical care and TLC Sally needed while she recovered.
Sally blossomed into a lovely, vibrant dog within one month’s time. She remained a little unsure of strangers at first, but once she let her guard down the silly, affectionate side of her took over. Sally sat in our laps during all 26 hours of the drive we made last November from Juarez to California with the van full of Mexican rescue dogs. During the trip, we were able to really get to know Sally and came to fully recognize the true joy and gratitude residing in her exhausted eyes.

Once in Northern California, Sally was adopted out via Small Dog Rescue, one of our most trusted partner organizations. They welcomed Sally with open arms and worked hard to find her the absolute perfect home.
Sally is now cherished and loved in her new home in California, with the life she used to know thousands of miles and eons of heartache behind her.
