Ending Electrocution in Juarez Mexico
PROJECT UPDATE: FEBRUARY 2007
Compasion without Borders is heading down to Chihuahua, Chihuahua the weekend of February 16th-18th to hold a statewide humane euthanasiang training. Officials and animal control representatives from around the state will be in attendance.
Prior to the training, which begins the afternoon of the 17th, a meeting between Compassion without Borders, Aprodea (our partners, a local animal protection group in Juarez ) and the head of the Department of health will take place. The goal of the meeting is to discuss our plan and strategy to end electrocution in the state of Chihauhua, something officials have promised to work with us to achieve over the next few years.
Compassion without Borders and APRODEA will form a contract with the government, offering our support, training, and services in exchange for their promise to switch all animal control centers in the state over to humane euthanasia. The process will not be immediate, as we must witch each center over one at a time, training personnel and instituting policies and standards of care for each individual facility.
During the training, attendees will be taught about the importance of humane euthanasia, in addition to being taught how to perform it. Humane animal handling techniques will also be emphasized, and all participants will also be attending a separate humane animal handling class in the near future.
