Curing treatable Disease – one dog at a time:

We recently helped to set up a program in Juarez, Mexico with local animal protection group Aprodea that provides treatment for animals who are suffering from a potentially fatal sexually transmitted tumor. Transmissible venereal tumors are a type of tumor that is very common in the area. The disease is transmitted sexually and causes large, painful tumor in the area of the genitals. Animals with this condition are easily cured with chemotherapy, but the average cost of treatment in Mexico is $500, which is simply impossible for most families.

Unfortunately, due to the high cost of treatment and the common misconception that the tumors are contagious to humans, animals with this painful condition are often abandoned or poisoned. As part of our clinic, we began the initial treatment for these animals and set up an ongoing clinic in the area where additional treatments will be given as needed to cure these animals.
